Today as we were driving home from preschool Miss Lucy asked me if it was fall. I said "no, why?" She said that she saw some leaves falling off the trees and some were turning yellow. I explained that here in the desert the trees get too hot and lose their leaves sometimes. Then she wanted to know if they grow new leaves, so I explained that after the leaves fall off then they stay off during the winter and then in the spring they grow brand new leaves. "And other things," she said. I told her yes that some trees grow flowers and some grow fruit and some even grow feathery types of things. (We have bottle brush trees all over). "And apricot trees grow popcorn!!!" she reminded me.
I'm so proud.
